Leadership

Arar Han

I believe that working hard, minding the details, and caring about quality are key to building lasting businesses.

I began my career at Harvard Business School, learning and writing about people who embody this in the retail world. Like John W. Nordstrom, whose exceptional service ethic built America’s favorite place to shop. I then went to Panera Bread to work for Ron Shaich, who revolutionized what it meant for time-strapped modern Americans to have a real meal at a fair price.

I am convinced that leaders like this in all industries form the backbone of our economy. They are not superheroes, and they are not geniuses. They focus on providing good value to customers, and treat their teams fairly. In so doing, they build great companies that people want to do business with, and also want to work at.

I want to partner with owners like this for the rest of my life.

Early in my career, a manager remarked to me that he loved business because unlike in sports, every day is game day. For the fans, the players, and the owners, the season lasts 365 days. Great coaches matter; strong teams outperform great individual talents.

I bore witness to this throughout my career. I started in operational roles at Cintas Corporation. Later, I held strategic roles in Silicon Valley. More recently, I’ve been an executive on both coasts.

Teams work best with talented leadership, patient capital and an engaged workforce. The best leaders focus their organizations on serving customer needs. The best investors prioritize long-term results over short-term fluctuations. The best employees thrive in environments that develop and keep top talent.

Let’s continue the winning tradition together.
